I would like to get this going so that we can have a more active league. I propose that we first vote on whether or not to merge. Then we can discuss the rules. I will conduct a poll in the RSL as well.

I have never been through a merge, so someone clarify all this for me... If I understand correctly, this is essentially the formation of a new league, which means all the history of this league will be lost. Am I correct? If I am then I'm not exactly a big fan of this, but then I'm not a big fan of playing in an inactive league either. Also -- what happens to traded draft picks after a merge?

In a merge which I have been through and not a fan of, everything is wiped clean, history, draft pick trades, everything starts over at 0. I have also found that your players will not perform the same as they did in this league. If you have a 40 homer player MVP type he could end up being a .220 hitter with maybe 15 homers. This has happened to me before where I had an all star team in the original league then the team finished near the bottom in the new league even though my players all had higher skill levels then the teams ahead of me. It warps the simulation as far as player performances go.
I am not a fan of this and will vote NO.
However that being said if 5 teams from RSL want to join our league (not a merge) I have no problems with that. We could even tweak the rules a bit for them.

I have not voted yet but my instinct is to vote against this, as it basically means the end of the league. I like this league and I would like to see it continue. I'd rather give the dead teams away to chaperones indefinitely or just let them run on auto-pilot than see the league come to an end. I get that may not really be feasible in the end but I am really not in favor of starting over from scratch.

Again, I would be more inclined to drop a few teams, if possible. That would require (assuming I know what I'm talking about) starting a new league and wiping out all records, but the talent pool would be the same, we could start it in the correct year, restore the traded draft picks after inception, and the league history could easily be preserved somewhere. Maybe that's a pipe dream, but I prefer that to letting the league die.

I voted no. It's possible my mind could be changed by circumstance or impassioned arguments, but at present I would like to do whatever is necessary to keep this league operating as is. I like building a history with a team over time, so a merge, for me, is the same as folding the league and starting over somewhere else. We should just ask the 5 teams from RSL to take over the 5 dead teams here, its the only move that makes sense.

Except if somebody in the RSL has a playoff team and has to take over a poor team in this league. We have teams that have been inactive for almost three months. I don't that situation improving any time soon. I wish the teams in the RSL could be transferred as is but that's not possible. I'm just trying to find a way of having a more active league.Pages: 1
