Peter Dinkle

March 21, 2017 at 03:20AM View BBCode

When we started this season, the Anaheim Royals were unsure whether they would keep [url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=11980431]Peter Dinkle[/url] as our closer with two stronger, younger arms available to possible ensure a better turnout in the 9th. After 2 very down seasons for Dinkle, the 10-Time All-Star, 7-Time Fireman of the Year, and 1-Time Cy Young winner was at serious risk of losing his spot if he struggled early into the year.

At 628 Saves for a career, he ranked No. 3 All-Time in Saves recorded, just 2 Saves from tying 2nd, and 3 from passing it. It didn't take long for Dinkle to record those saves and jump into the spotlight as debatably the second best closer in the history of the league, but with 90+ saves to catch up to first, and in the twilight of his career at age 37, it seemed that is where his name would stay.

However, Mr. Dinkle had different plans, as he put up his strongest season to record. Dinkle recorded a whopping 62 saves this season, coming just 4 shy of the league record for a single season. He did however manage to post the 2nd highest total in league history, passing the 2 Harry's who had previously tied at 61. [url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=5412054]Harry Lilliquist[/url] had previously set the 2nd highest total in the early days of the league, in 1956. Two-hundred and thirty six years later, [url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=12045246]Harry Craver[/url] was able to tie the record. But it would only be 8 short years after that when Dinkle would pass it.

With 62 saves this season, Dinkle is only 33 saves short of the All-Time Saves leading record or 723, set by [url=http://simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9060583]Mike Crossin[/url] of the Minnesota Creme in 2047.

Should Dinkle not retire, Anaheim Front Office has made it clear that they will continue to put Mr. Dinkle out not he mound in the 9th until he decides to call it quits on his own, despite what his ratings and performance will show. We are confident he will let us know when it's time. And now, heading into the offseason after a brutal 4-Game Sweep from Detroit, the pressure is on whether Peter Dinkle will retire just 34 shy of the record, enshrined in second place for the foreseeable future, or take his shot at history.

Peter Dinkle has set the new league record for Career Saves. Pretty excited to have a player that could live on with this record for some time.

Technically he will die soon. We play 15 games a day.

He has chosen to retire rather than squeeze in one more season. So 740 it is, a new league record, one that could stand for some time.
