The official relocation thread (with Admin)

January 25, 2016 at 01:51PM View BBCode

Hi,

I'd like to summarize.

There was an unanimous vote to go to 16 players. Only one player voiced concerns about losing league history.

There have been 2 questions.
(1) As for the players on the abandoned teams, some players asked if they could remain in the player pool. Waiver wire was considered not a fair way to distribute the players though, so we'd need a kind of expansion draft. I have my doubts that it is possible to set up an expansion draft, but I'll ask Chris anyway.

(2) There was the question of the commercial handling of the current downtime. If Chris needs a few days to handle the relocation, we should get these days added to our subscription.

I will ask Chris to respond here, and to post a timeline for the restructuring.

Regards, F.

(1) Admin might be able to (since this is almost like a merge) copy the good waiver wire players and then throw them into the initial amateur draft of the new league but other then that they will be deleted. I also asked about a possible draft but have not heard back yet.

An expansion draft is not possible; the players in dropped teams simply are not moved to the new league. (If the players were distributed it would cause talent inflation for a number of seasons until enough retirements happened for the league to balance itself.)

The waiver wire will be migrated.

Yes, this is exactly the same procedure as a merge.

If we lose any time, I will extend the subscriptions by the number of days we lose but people will need to drop their subscriptions and renew them to take advantage (which I recommend anyway, PayPal sometimes gets twitchy when we transfer a subscription). However, since only one league is involved I expect things to move quickly.

The amateur draft will already be completed so after the new league is set up, it will go directly to games rather than draft again.

If we start the new league in 1986, I can attempt to detatch statistics and improvement records from the old player records and migrate them to the new league, but as I've never done that before I make no guarantees. It will make this process easier if no one changes any player names this week.

If there are no issues to resolve I will complete this tomorrow (although the aforementioned stats migration may take a couple more days, games can start without it though) and the games will restart Wednesday.

Can we return all of Seattle's players before this happens?

Return Seattles players to where?

If possible, we should reverse all of Seattle's moves. The owner basically dumped anything good to the waiver wire and picked up a bunch of garbage. There was discussion about doing this, but I thought we said we weren't going to.

Are any chaperoned teams staying? I ask because I have been hemming and hawing about taking on permanently another team? Just no sure if I am looking to make it happen right now.

If there are only the non chaperoned teams staying, then no problem. Maybe another time

That will be a problem. I could pull back optioned players, but I can't assign players on the waiver wire to teams. So it would be up to Admin to do something here.

I guess the main Hogs here are Kevin Murphy (P), Mark Miller and Don Smith (batters), these 3 are pretty good talents.

We have already lost a few days and what happens with one time payment accounts like mine ?? Surely you can add time to those.

Hmmm. I think Admin should send all of the players that Seattle cut back to Seattle then delete the team.

Well I guess ADMIN must have changed their mind about the waiver wire then because before I had asked them if they could copy the players from the waiver wire over to the new league and they said "NO"

Not sure why this is not possible, can you explain ? If we took another route in that the 8 teams leaving and had an expansion draft for them there would be no problems. All those players get put into a draft for the 8 new owners. So why couldn't this be done without 8 new owners for the rest of the league ?? It does not seem to be a great leap from an expansion draft. As for the talent inflation I doubt it would be that great as it is a draft and obviously the higher ranked teams draft near the bottom so it would mostly help to even the league out as the bottom teams would benefit the most.

However if ADMIN reverses all of the recent moves by the owners of the teams being deleted then that puts this point to bed as there would be no need to acquire any waiver wire players as they would all suck.

Yes, you just don't have to do anything special to "use" the extra time like a subscription player does. You just see your "valid until" date move the appropriate number of days. So you guys are easy. :)

I can identify and kill them if necessary.

There's simply no provision for a dispersal draft in the code. I'd have to write and test it from scratch.

I will do so.

If I said no I was confused about something. There is no reason the wire can't be moved.

seriously it has been over 1 week and no teams have been deleted, no players on the waiver wire put back. From this point of view nothing has been done.

Yours is not the only point of view.

This is ridiculous!
