1994 HOF Nominations

February 27, 2015 at 02:59PM View BBCode

So I've been working on compiling a database for the AGL. It's a work in progress, but by the end of this season I should have full stats for all players who are retired. So far it is pretty much complete through 1964. When it is complete I will attempt to share it with anyone who would like to look at it.

With that being said I have some nominations for the next ballot:

  • [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9745004]Bill Cody[/url]- Played shortstop for St. Louis (now HOU) 6 time all-star, 2 time MVP, 6x Gold Glove
  • [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?player=nobody&mode=stats&id=9744995]Bobby Almanza[/url] -Played third base for Boston, ROY, 10x All Star, 1974 MVP, 4x Gold Glove, 5 World Series rings.
  • [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9503501]Billy Kidd[/url] - Starting pitcher, spent most of his career playing for St. Louis. 7x All Star, 1968 Cy Young.
  • [url=http://www.simdynasty.com/player.jsp?id=9745009]Phil Pardo[/url] - Pitched for Boston. Began his career in the bullpen, and became a starter at the age of 27. Went on to record a 218-93 W/L Record. 8x All-Star, 3x Cy Young, 6 World Series Rings.

Forgive me if it is inappropriate for me to start this thread Tim, moderate how you see fit.

I will be happy to add them.
Please recall, that I put in for us to vote every TWO seasons, so we will not have a 1993 vote, but rather 1994.
However, its is never too early to get started!
Anyone else want to nominate some players in addition to those above and who will stay on the ballot from last season's vote?

Ahh, I missed the part about every two years, that's a good idea.

That database sounds fantastic! Can't wait to see it. FWIW Pardo is definitely a HOFer. Been on the losing side against him for far too long

[url=https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZYFVvBWUkw5Q2xgpU2JnanlnFuNV5axk7FQM_D51J4o/edit?usp=sharing]Here is the spreadsheet[/url]. It has career pitching and batting stats for all players who appeared before 1993 and are now retired.

Bold faced players are in the HOF, Italics are either nominees or have appeared on a ballot.

I have a column in there labeled "HOFCST" that is a modified Bill James formula used in baseball-reference.com. [url=http://www.baseball-reference.com/about/leader_glossary.shtml#hof_standard]You can read the full formula here.[/url] Basically 50 is considered an average Hall of Famer, this formula doesn't really apply to relief pitchers. You will notice we did a pretty good job with the inagural vote.

Batters with less than 1000 AB and Pitchers with less than 500 IP are not scored. (N/A)
There are some additional metrics described in the above linked page in there I'd like to look at, the Black and Grey Ink tests. But they require looking at individual seasons. I have the raw data, but have not yet gone through it.

Atlanta has no recent retirees worth mention.
