Rebel's winding down...

December 27, 2014 at 02:44PM View BBCode

This is one of those situations where I don't mind rebuilding as I can play Tim Rebel every day as he chases records.

Home runs: Mickey Tillman is the HR king with 600. Rebel is second and has 577. He has an outside shot at breaking it this year, but it should fall next season, unless Rebel surprises everyone by retiring. He is OS 37.

Hits: Cleveland's Horatio Gates is the leader with 3,630. Rebel is fourth with 3,239. If Rebel plays until he is OS 39, he should break the record.

RBI: Pitt's Tommy Perry holds the record with an incredible 2140. Rebel is third with 1879. Rebel would probably have to play until he was OS 40 to get this one.

Runs: Gates is the man here too. He has 2230. Rebel's way back in sixth with 1835. This isn't likely to happen as Rebel would have to keep playing at OS 41 (at least) to beat it.

Errors: This is the one record Rebel owns with 340 and counting. if he keeps playing for a few more years he could amass a mind-boggling 400 errors. Second place is Florida's Doug Gleaton with 316.

Singles Gates 2465 is at the top of the charts. Rebel is 10th with 2069. This isn't likely, but finishing up second is possible at 2308, which is the San Diego team record.

Doubles Gates has 632. Rebel is 10th with 504. Not likely as Rebel is already down to B speed, although that might help him get more singles.

Triples The Toronto Envy's Jeff Cafego has 148. Rebel isn't even in the the top 20. Next!

At Bats Gates has 12,229. Rebel just moved into the 25th spot with 10,047. If he he plays until OS 40, he'll have a shot as Rebel has been getting about 650 at bats a season.

Games Gates is the league leader with 3,020. Rebel is way back in 54th place with 2,448. At an average of 161 games per season, Rebel would have to play until OS 41.

SLG% Rebel is currently first with a .563. Both the second (Steve Sullivan) and third (Fred Flintsone) are active. All three are likely to decrease as they age. Fourth is Peter Miklos at .554%

AVG: Sullivan is first with .325 and Rebel second at .322. Again, both are likely to decline. Former Seattle player Bill Conzelman is third at .319.

OPS It's Sullivan .957 then Rebel .949 before we hit the retired Mitch McConnell at .935.

OBP: Rebel is fourth at .387 and already under retired Tommy Perry at .388. Sullivan is #1 with .398 and San diego's Joel Throop has a .389.

I'd like to add what a great player Sullivan is. Don's had some great players on his team over the past decade and it has been a pleasure competing against him.

Awesome. Glad to see you playing those guys. Just had a similar situation in another league. Got to play a guy until he broke homerun record. I LOVED IT!

Rebel is now the HR King.

The record had stood for 200 years before Rebel took a pitch from St Louis Ducky Kelly, who was only in the game for mop-up duty, and hit a line drive down the line, barely over the left field wall.

There was a two minute speech at home plate after he stepped on it where the gracious St Louis fans stood and applauded the accomplishment.

Rebel said he was proud to wear the camouflage of the Border Patrol but this will be something he will leave as a legacy to his kids and future grandchildren.

Rebel said he hasn't decided on whether or not he will be back for 2190 and go after the 142 hits he needs to pass Horatio Gates as the all-time hits leader.
