I had a play in today's game where the opponent was at the one and had a holding penalty and the option was either to decline or accept the play.
I can see on running plays that the penalty would occur in the field of play, but on a passing play there is a chance, depending on where the line of scrimmage is, it could be a safety.
(Today's hold was on a running play. I'm just asking for future reference.)

I can see how you could write it in that any holding on a passing play within the two (or 3 or whatever) would result in a safety.

Lol... any non safety holding call taking place in that position would result in a free play to the offense if accepted (half the distance like loss of a half yard or so but retention of the down. I don't know how this actually reads in the NFL rule books but I have never actually seen a holding call in the end zone. I think the ref's would rather see the sack take place.Pages: 1
