Fantasy trade: Pujols/Polonaco 4 Hanley/Beckett

May 02, 2010 at 12:24AM View BBCode

I figure Pujols for Hanley is about even and am getting a good starting pitcher on the cheap. (right now I'm first in BA, HR, R, RBI and second in steals) but my pitching's in the bottom half of the league.
It's a 12-team league and I'd slide Votto in at first and move Zobrist over from SS (we have a 10-game minimum). Johnny Damon or Matsui becomes my DH (Votto was DHing).
My rotation would be Beckett, Vazquez, Shields, Silva, Kuroda, David Price and Wade Davis.
Any thoughts?

I don't think I would ever trade Pujols.

Roto is the awesome, Tim. Jump on the bandwagon.

it is pretty awesome, yes (still fairly tedious, but i understand the attraction). since we don't have a fantasy baseball forum, i guess this is a good place for it.

(if it, in fact, requires a forum.)

((at least nuzzy didn't talk about fake baseball here like shep did.))

My team is like, 9 points up in my roto league. I don't have any idea how it is happening, since I haven't ever done fantasy baseball before, but I am enjoying the ride. (Yes, I have 55 points, and 2nd place at the end of day yesterday was 46. It is awesome.)

i find roto incredibly tedious, myself. i much prefer the head to head format.

Do you remember that guy a few seasons back who pretty much thought that Jake Peavy was the next Cy Young? (By which I mean "superstar awesome pitcher after whom future SP's would be measured," not "guy who would win the award so named.") LOL

Also, since posting that I was doing well and in first place, my lead is down to 52-50 instead of 56-47. Rats.

i like to think he's been curled up in a little ball in the corner of his bedroom ever since the trade.

So ... an article on ESPN.com on Thursday listed a full slate of "must waive" fantasy guys; stating on no uncertain terms that these players were completely useless and should be dropped immediately, if not sooner.

Of the dozen or so guys listed, my 1st place fantasy team had 3 of them: 1B Todd Helton, 3B Chipper Jones and SP Mark Buehrle. I have since dropped Jones and added Wiggington from BAL to my roster. Buehrle pitched well last night, but was left in the game through 8, when he should have been pulled after 7, and ended up with a no-decision. I'm debating about what to do with Helton. Early in the season I was an idiot and waive James Loney from the Dodgers to pick Helton up. I'm so ashamed.

Helton is a weird case. His batted ball numbers, BABIP and contact rates are all in line with his career norms (suggesting he's not getting burned by bad luck), but the power is not there for some reason. I say keep him on the bench for a while and see if the power comes back.

Buherle should be fine.
