Suicide Pool Help, Week 5

October 02, 2008 at 01:47PM View BBCode

Well I am still in this thing with one of my entries. I need to decide between 2 choices this week. Either GB over ATL, or PHI over WAS. I have to send in my pick by end of today, so I'm not sure if I'll know the Aaron Rodgers injury status by then.

I've used NYG, Dallas, and Carolina already. IMO these are really the 2 safest games to pick.

What are your thoughts?

what about SD, Indy or NE?

(I think) I like GB without Rodgers better than any of those 3. But let's go through them...

For Indy, this will be the week where we find out if they are going to be good this year or finish 5-11. I honestly would not be surprised to see them lose to Houston. They should be 0-3.

I was already burnt once by Miami. I'm not sure I want to bet against them again. SD should have lost last week to Oakland. I'm not sure they can be trusted. Norv Turner on the road doesn't sound like something I want to be associated with.

NE would be a possibility. Frank Gore could run all over NE though. But they have had 2 weeks to prepare for SF. It might sound dumb, but I don't know if I want to lose twice picking NE.

PHI/WAS is a coin flip, I certainly would never consider that one.

Kansas City(1-3) @ Carolina(3-1) - already used
Chicago(2-2) @ Detroit(0-3) - Chicago should steamroll, but coming off a HUGE win and on the road to a hungry team...and a rival.
Atlanta(2-2) @ Green Bay(2-2) - Atlanta doesn't suck and GB isn't all that great. ATL should be able to run a lot on this D.
San Diego(2-2) @ Miami(1-2) - SD should win. That Fins game 2 weeks ago was a fluke.
Seattle(1-2) @ NY Giants(3-0) - already used
Washington(3-1) @ Philadelphia(2-2) - coin flip, tough divisional game
Tennessee(4-0) @ Baltimore(2-1) - another tough divisional game with no clear winner. The BAL D should hold down TEN, but not sure it's enough to win.
Indianapolis(1-2) @ Houston(0-3) - Houston isn't bad and always plays IND tough here...and IND hasn't looked get yet this season.
Tampa Bay(3-1) @ Denver(3-1) - another toss up game. Denver isn't good against teams with good D's since their's isn't that great.
Buffalo(4-0) @ Arizona(2-2) - Buffalo seems logical here, but are they really this good? Arizona can put up points but they can't stop anybody. Tough game here.
New England(2-1) @ San Francisco(2-2) - NE got trounced by the worst team in football and now everyone thinks they suck...well, SF sucks.
Cincinnati(0-4) @ Dallas(3-1) - already used
Pittsburgh(3-1) @ Jacksonville(2-2) - real tough game here. PIT coming off a hard fought win and no has no RB's. JAX should control the ball and destroy Big Ben.
Minnesota(1-3) @ New Orleans(2-2) - No clear winner here either...

I'd go with Tampa Bay. Denver has been decent in their offense, but TB should be able to slow them down. The Denver defense should make Brian Griese look like Joe Montana reborn. They could score 40...

TB in Mile High? I wouldn't take any road team at Mile High...

What's wrong with taking the Saints? That's not a coin flip game, the line is way too low.

I used Buffalo already too.

I am starting to consider NE. SF has beaten 1 bad team and Seattle with their top 6 WRs out.

I can't believe Philly is 7 point favorites vs. Washington.

Tom - what's the feeling in Boston on the game this week?

Can the Saints stop the run?

The feeling up here is that NE is going to dominate SF. They have one concern on D and that's Willis...if we can control him, we should be able to score no problem. Maroney may be out for this game, but we still have Morris and Jordan, so we're not worried about the run game. Nobody at all in the media up here thinks SF can win.

Saints are a tough pick, Minny isn't terrible and AP can do a lot of damage against that D.

Ah yes, the famously objective Boston media. Anybody who thinks that the Niners can't win at home against this Patriots team is not thinking clearly.

What's funny is that almost ALL of the Boston media picked the Angels in the ALDS...so much for objective, huh?

I think that the GB defense is a lot better than they are given credit for. ATL isn't horrible, but they aren't great either, and they have a young QB playing on the road in Lambeau. It isn't as imposing as it would be in ... Nov/Dec ... but still. I like GB to win, with or without Rodgers.

I don't think I want to pick a MNF game either, too unpredictable - guys who normally don't give 100% step up since the game is on national TV.

Since all the games look scary, I might just go with GB. Simply because I think I can pick better spots to use NE, SD, and PHI in the next 3-4 weeks.

Going against your alma mater huh? We'll see if that ends up being a good decision...

Yeah, I went against Ryan last week too. It will bite me at some point, I'm sure.

The deciding factor, the GB game will be on TV here:

nice. Well good luck and for your sake, I hope ATL and NE lose so I don't have to say "I told you so." :)

i'm sure that will be a great consolation if you're out. i'd probably go with the chargers, but as i'm already out of 3 of these things, that might be a good reason to take oak.

nobody thought miami could win either. the pats are on the road without there top running back starting an inexperienced qb who hasn't shown anything. coming off a bye, they shoold be well prepared, but i can't say it's a lock. if i had to pick this game i'd take the pats, but i don't think it's solid enough to risk an elimation pick.

the sox will beat the angels. the sox always beat the angels. the are three certainties in life: death, taxes and the sox beating the angels..

The Angels are the best team in baseball and have the most well-rounded team in the game. There's nothing that would point to the Sox winning this series other than their history in the playoffs against the Angels...though it is just that, history. This is a different Angels team and a different Sox team.
FuriousGiorge

The Angels have the worst run differential of any of the AL playoff teams, and are also behind the Phils and the Cubs. On the other hand, the only playoff team with a better run differential than the Red Sox are the Cubs. So the lesson here appears to be, the Boston media has no idea what it's talking about.

who cares about run differential over 162 games in a short series? Doesn't mean censored . The teams with the best pitching are going to win, hands down. Most of the time, teams with the best bullpens win. I'd say the Angels fall into this category.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the Sox take them down and go on to win again, but this Angels team is the best they've ever been in a long time.

I knew you would twist my words somehow. Point is, you could have a +400 differential over the season, but the team you play may have a couple stud pitchers and a shutdown bullpen...you have a good shot at losing. It's a short series.

For you to sit here and say that the Sox were favored to win this series shows me you kinda don't know much about the game.
