Mike Sweeney's career as a KC Royal probably ends today. The team is getting younger and he's 34, he hasn't been healthy in five seasons, and team officials have said nothing - absolutely nothing - about their plans to negotiate with Sweeney or let him go. Sweeney is obviously reading between the lines, so in this morning's KC Star sports section he took out a full-page ad to say thank you to the Royals fans and the city of Kansas City.September 30, 2007 at 05:39PM View BBCode
I remember when Sweeney was a free agent in his prime, but re-signed at a discount rate because he believed in the team.September 30, 2007 at 05:55PM View BBCode

You remember that, but way too few folks around here do. All they do is look at the injuries he's had since then and [Censored] about how little the Royals got for their $55 million dollar investment.
How quickly they forget that at the time he signed that contract, he was probably the third best RH hitter in the American League, and that he left millions of dollars on the table to re-sign with the Royals.

I agree and there aren't many hitters around that were as patience and disciplined as he was.October 01, 2007 at 01:09PM View BBCode
I went the the Brewer game yesterday. The overpaid Jenkins was replaced in the field in the top of the 9th. He recieved a standing ovation as he went to the dugout. The guy had taken the collar striking out 3 times to cap off another mediocre at best season. But the fans gave him some love for the memories. Even if most of them were bad.Pages: 1
