ok, so i'm at the met game last night and with the cubs up 2-0 in the top of the 3rd, two outs, runners on 2nd and 3rd and cesar izturis up, randolf decides to intentionally walk him to get to zambrano. so mayne proceeds to go 3-0 to zambrano, who on 3-1 smashes a meatball that slices foul and then strikes out on the 3-2 pitch. my point being that intentionally walking the 8th place batter to get to the pitcher isn't a very good tactic. in fact, its no fucking good. right?May 16, 2007 at 07:38PM View BBCode
Correct. Managers just like to think that they're doing something, pushing buttons and what-not.May 16, 2007 at 07:47PM View BBCode
I would have pitched to Izturis. Having the pitcher lead off an inning is most excellent.May 16, 2007 at 07:48PM View BBCode
yeah, i don't know what play book willie got that tactic out of. but, i wish he'd burn it.May 16, 2007 at 07:50PM View BBCode
Maybe he figured his pitcher would have an easier time if the bases were clogged up.May 16, 2007 at 08:02PM View BBCode
yeah, i think i need to vent a bit more because what really irks me is that the same fans that are booing wright and booed beltran two years ago, let this go without batting an eye.May 16, 2007 at 08:20PM View BBCode
You could probably do the math on this one and determine if it was a good or bad tactic. Here's how one might look at it:Pages: 1
