You know who really came back to earth after a hot start? Jason Collins.

he's still better than brett favre. also trent dilfer, jeff hoestettler, jeff george, tim hasselback and ty detmer- all better than favre.

You forgot Sean Salisbury. DON'T FORGET SEAN SALISBURY! (I know Happy's not arguing this, but his anti-Favre thing borders on the pathological, like the More Cowbell guy and his Shanahan thing).

sammy baugh, not as good. also dead. that is why. right up until then, still much better.

No, Slingin' Sammy played back in the 30's and 40's, when his competition was nothing but cripples, midgets and weedy Chinamen who could pass as white. Even Favre is better than Sammy Baugh. Also, Favre is a better receiver than Don Hutson.

You gotta remember that its only a 16 game season, sometimes you can look at the stats and realize that player simply had a lucky season. I saw that, you didnt. You say he was top 5 last year, i say he was lucky. Luck with interceptions, players playing above potential around him, whatever. The offensive line and the WRs? thats just further information to show that the stats you were looking at was misleading. now you and everyone else can look back and say "whoops, maybe he wasnt that great." or you can defend your dumb position to the end of the earth. Which one do you think I expected out of you? (hint: Do you still think Gravity isnt a theory?)

Campbell is better than favre. Or.... im sorry, dont let the massive interception discrepency deter from your manlove.

sure, campbell is better than favre now. campbell was not available to the jets though. was he?

I don't know who this "Campbell" is (also, the "gravity is a theory" thing, what the hell is that all about?)

do you ever read the actual response you receive, or just compose your statements in reaction to the response that you think you're going to get? you would, however, know all about defending a dumb position until the end of the earth. it's your idiom.

(you're doing it now)

to summarize:

my position: bret favre, for a large portion of his career, has had a reputation as a qb greater than his actual skills at qb.
happy's position: bret favre is overrated.
difference: next to none.

my position: bret favre is a better qb than the skill level the jets received from that position over the past couple of seasons.
happy's position: bret favre sucks, but he might, possibly be better than kellen clemens, whoever he is.
difference: again, minimal.

my position: notwithstanding my disdain for favre's reputation, he did have a very good season last year, with top-5 quality results during that season.
happy's position: bret favre sucks and i don't like him. therefore any success he might appear to have is not the result of his performance but rather the result of one or all of a stellar o-line, yac on the part of the receiving core or a soft schedule. bret favre is not, was not last year and never has been a top 5 nfl qb, regardless of what statistics and mvp trophies might suggest
difference: huh. now that i've outlined them side by side, my position does look like the dumb one, doesn't it?

You gotta remember that the receivers Favre had to throw to was good. You also gotta remember his offensive linemen was good. You gotta!

staubach. pfft. lost 3 super bowls. three. plus he went in the navy first. how dumb was that?

unitas? the best season his team ever had? hurt. 1958 championship game? those guys were terrible anyway. my pop warner team could have beat them.

our resident awesomes informed us one day that Joe Wilie Namath was something of a clown also. that one went right on by without a fight really.

(imagine what namath could have done with today's rules, that see the quarterback as practically unhittable, and receivers downfield strictly off limits. i mean, he would be awesome. i mean, he was awesome, even with the knees of a 70 year old.)

don't be silly. he played like, pre-merger. those guys sucked. plus his receiver, well i've never heard of him and i'm sure he sucked because of when he played, but namath's success was still all because of him.

when the redskins beat Staubach and the Cowboys in the NFC Championship game, i was thunderstruck. i did not actually think such a thing was humanly possible.
