Pujols is 89.6 but with a singificantly higher peak.

I guess if he retired today maybe not, but he is projected to pass Biggio in Warp-3 in 3 years, so he will have had a better career in 2 years.

Was Mays a stud? Definately. He'd the definition of 5-tool.

But outside of the Babe, no one has ever dominated an era like Bonds. It's the steroids era, but it's still HIS era.

I agree. When discussing Bonds and his career from here on out, you must throw in steriods now, just for the simple fact that the numbers he posed in this decade (with the exception of last yr) coincide with the steriods issue and how difficult it would be for a ball player to go at such a pace this late in their career and maintain for a certain length of time while staying clean. I agree with the notion that Bonds was already in the top five of best ever at the end of the 90's, but his alleged use of roids in this decade makes me question his performance.

Best "All Around" of all time?

October 08, 2008 at 03:47PM View BBCode

Well guys, if we are going to talk about the best all around then I think you have to go with Babe Ruth. He could pitch AND he could hit. On top of that, the level of his sheer dominance compared to what other teams were doing... He completely changed the way the game of baseball was played. He hit more HRs than most TEAMS did in his time... and that was BEFORE he got close to hitting 60. And before he even did all that with a bat he was a stud pitcher. So if you really want to talk about "all around" best you have to say Ruth.

I didn't realize that the Sultan of Swat played post-1980's ...

The post-80s argument seemed to die out on the first page.

I think Barry Bonds is far and away the best player post-1980s and it's not really that close. I also think he's significantly better than Willie Mays, although defense closes the gap somewhat, but that's neither here nor there. (OPS+ compares hitter OPS to league averages and Bonds buries Mays in that regard)

When all is said and done, I believe that A-Rod will have the most compelling stats but for right now it's Bonds in a landslide.
