Trade #1383086 has been completed between the San Diego Socialites and the Kansas City River Cats. The Kansas City River Cats receive Rico Schneider, Draft Pick - 2092 Round 1 (SD) from the San Diego Socialites in exchange for Miko Ibashi.

Trade #1383360 has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Kansas City River Cats. The Kansas City River Cats receive Kazuhiko Motohigashi, Draft Pick - 2092 Round 3 (BOS) from the Boston Pops in exchange for Draft Pick - 2092 Round 2 (KC).

It became obvious that I was once again going to finish in third place (which has been all too frequent the last few seasons). So when SD offered me a 1st round pick and a decent prospect for my 2nd best RP, I decided to go for it. I attempted to get a little more in the deal, but SD wouldn't bite, so I settled for his initial offer. I do really need to begin a legitimate rebuild, so I'll start here.

But I can't just give up entirely, so I offered Boston a trade for a vet RP who may well be only useful for the rest of this season. I like to always field a team that can win, and it didn't cost that much to do it. My desire to always be a least somewhat competitive is certainly my Achilles heal, but I am working to get over it :).

Just my opinion either the pick or Schneider would have been enough for a 30 yo RP. But folks are going to tell me Cheeze knows what he is doing yada yada yada yada. Not bitter San Diego gained a pitcher. Just think this was a overpay.

The purpose of this thread is for owners to express their reasoning for making trades, not for other owners to wade in with their opinions on the trades .

Still I am curious as to why you would be bitter if you think one of your rivals over paid .

A trade has been completed between the Brooklyn Gothams and the Los Angeles Miracles. The Los Angeles Miracles receive Mario Donovan from the Brooklyn Gothams in exchange for Draft Pick - 2093 Round 3 (LAN).

I had been unsuccessful in a previous attempt to acquire a veteran pitcher from Brooklyn but then this offer appeared on my desk, I took a bit of time to think about it and then accepted.

Donovan's not great but he's better than a number of options I had and a 3rd round price is a fair price to pay, I have no idea where we team is going to end up this season but we won 92 games last year and if NY actually does rebuild this year we might be able to sneak into the playoffs.

And getting a 3rd for a pitcher whom I wanted to move to give a younger arm a shot was fair value for me.

Trade #1386289 has been completed between the Kansas City River Cats and the St. Louis Guppies. The St. Louis Guppies receive Danny Higuera, Rico Schneider, Draft Pick - 2093 Round 2 (KC) from the Kansas City River Cats in exchange for Dan Hoderlein.

I had no takers on my attempt to rebuild this season, and the River Cats are doing surprisingly well (altho it is still quite early), so I decided to once again try to make it to the playoffs. Hoderlein gives me a big bat in the outfield, which I desperately need if I am really going to contend. I hated to give up Schneider - he is a very interesting prospect who I think will develop into a solid major leaguer, but that is two or three seasons in the future, and I needed the added punch now.

Trade #1386374 has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Philadelphia BullFrogs. The Philadelphia BullFrogs receive Roy Skinner from the Boston Pops in exchange for Draft Pick - 2093 Round 3 (PHI).

I've had Skinner OTB for awhile. He's a solid backup catcher, nothing more, but I had 3 catchers in the majors and one in the minors (Thompson) who will be visiting The Show very soon. And I have other players ready to take Skinner's spot. From my perspective Philly looked like Skinner would be an upgrade and since they are competing I thought they might be interested. Skinner was a former 3rd rounder and that's what I got in return.

This is far from a blockbuster but did clear up some roster space for me which is all I wanted to do.

Trade #1386565 has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Atlanta Silverbacks. The Atlanta Silverbacks receive Jesse "James" Hildebrand from the Boston Pops in exchange for Jeff Currie.

I believe my young squad could be competing for a playoff spot next year. My biggest gap right now is the overall quality of my pitching staff. With both of these views in mind I felt it was time to start adding some vets to my staff.

Currie gives me a quality arm for 5-6 years, a time period in which I expect to compete. Though I hated to part with Hildenbrand I knew guys like Currie wouldn't come cheap. I also felt I couldn't wait for Hildenbrand to fully develop (3-5 years) to be part of my next competitive push.

As always, time will tell.

Trade #1386565 has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Atlanta Silverbacks. The Atlanta Silverbacks receive Jesse "James" Hildebrand from the Boston Pops in exchange for Jeff Currie.

For the Silverbacks, this was a chance to get younger and have my pitchers look to come up 'together' and grow while the young hitters are coming along too. Most of my hitters are under 27, and Currie was getting a little long in the tooth to be productive as the hitters and rest of my pitchers come along. I was hoping for a pitcher in the 22 to 24 age that was almost ready, but I couldn't pass up Hildebrand who I had listed as the #1 pick in the previous draft.

Good luck to Currie over in the AL, and hoping for good conversions for Hildebrand in the Silverback minor leagues.

Bob Horner League, 07-05-2092:

Trade #1387674 has been completed between the St. Louis Guppies and the New York Goodens. The New York Goodens receive Walter Blanco from the St. Louis Guppies in exchange for Monte Kennedy, Draft Pick - 2094 Round 1 (NYN).

---I've wanted Blanco for a while and we went back and forth on the pieces. I feel it's fair and while Kennedy looks like a solid big bat prospect, the first is unpredictable. Mostly, I wanted more pitching and it's fair.

Trade #1387665 has been completed between the Brooklyn Gothams and the New York Goodens. The New York Goodens receive Draft Pick - 2094 Round 2 (MIL) from the Brooklyn Gothams in exchange for Mark Sullivan.

---Brooklyn sent this offer while I was working on the Blanco deal. It was easy to take once the Blanco deal was settled since I won't get much more out of Sullivan. A second was too good to pass up for an old guy, good stats or not.

Capwell, a throw in & a 1st for Johnston

A trade has been completed between the Los Angeles Miracles and the Texas Hamiltonians. The Texas Hamiltonians receive Gil Simmons, Mason Capwell, Draft Pick - 2093 Round 1 (LAN) from the Los Angeles Miracles in exchange for Jack Johnston.

Against all odds my Miracles are hanging in the race this year despite a team ERA well over 4 so I figured I could sink a bit into a top 3 starter. Looking around I didn't see anyone with "For Sale" signs on top 3 starting pitching but I did noticed Texas struggling to stay in the AL race so I sounded out Hamilton on what his feelings were.

Once I determined that he was willing to move Johnston I made this offer and the deal was done. On one level I likely overpaid, especially if Capwell continues to improve the way he has, but I rationalized it by telling myself that since I had essentially found Capwell lying by the side of the road last April I wasn't really giving up that much, plus I still have a 1st round pick this year.

Hopefully Johnston helps stabilize the rotation, my bats have started to come back to last year's level and maybe we can squeak into the post season, once you get in anything can happen. For Texas they get a 1st round pick and a potential back end of the rotation guy for a soon to decline asset, which makes sense if they are going to start a rebuild.

On my part, I've been willing to rebuild any time I could get a semi-quality offer for my players. This was by far the closest thing to that that I had seen. I probably would have done it for Capwell and a 2nd rounder, so getting the 1st instead was really a nice stroke of luck.

A Trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Texas Hamiltonians. The Texas Hamiltonians receive Carl Miller from the Boston Pops in exchange for Fritz de la Swope.

As with my previous trade with Atlanta, this was an attempt to add one more decent arm to my rotation for next year, when I hope to be much more competitive, and give my guys in the minors one more year to develop.

If I get a good year out of Fritz The Cat I'll be happy.

Miller was a waiver wire pickup but still has some upside IF he can get max ABs (and I couldn't do that for him with a fairly young team battling for playing time). Maybe he'll hit better than .109 for the Hamiltonians!

I had offered him a 3rd round pick for Miller, and was willing to trade de la Swope for the same. He countered with the offer and I took it. :) I'm still not 100% sure that I like what it did to my roster composition (having only 9 pitchers in the majors), but I'll live with it.

Trade #1391368 has been completed between the New York Goodens and the Atlanta Silverbacks. The Atlanta Silverbacks receive Walter Blanco from the New York Goodens in exchange for Dave Fowler, Draft Pick - 2093 Round 1 (ATL).

Atlanta is already showing quite a nice lineup but the pitching is still a little young (minor leaguers) so I needed an anchor to try and get the competing started and bridge my staff until Koosman and Ely are ready. Blanco will be that anchor and the Silverbacks hope he has better luck in Atlanta than he had in NY.

In return, the #4 pick in the current draft and a power hitting prospect (Fowler) were shipped to NY. Fowler is a player that I liked when I drafted and still think he has a nice future as a lower contact, high power player. In order for that happen, Fowler needed to play every day and there was no room for him in Atlanta. #4 pick is a nice position to draft from, even in this draft there should be talent there, but I felt it was worth it to move the pick in this trade.

That sums it up. The three hardest things to get are aces, stud power bats with speed, and star catchers. I swapped 7 years of production from Blanco for 10-12 from Fowler, and a pick.

I'd like to act fast in dismantling this team, and Atlanta got on it quick! We're old trade partners.

A trade has been completed between the Boston Pops and the Milwaukee Indians. The Milwaukee Indians receive Dan Kapler from the Boston Pops in exchange for Draft Pick - 2095 Round 2 (MIL).

This one falls under the "no big deal" category. I've got too many minor league prospects and was hoping to move 1 or 2 for about what I drafted the player for. In this case Milwaukee had previously signaled a need for young pitching so I offered Kapler for a future 2nd rounder. Milwaukee gets a young prospect and I cleared some roster space and got a pick in return.

Trade #1391458 has been completed between the Texas Hamiltonians and the Brooklyn Gothams. The Brooklyn Gothams receive Jose Howell from the Texas Hamiltonians in exchange for Dan Smith, Draft Pick - 2096 Round 3 (BRO).

Howell can give me some leadership and wins on top of my rotation right now, and Smith was a replacement level pitcher. Third rounder did not mean much to since I do not expect to renew at the end of the cycle (as previously stated in its own thread.)

More on the same theme, two first rounders I was not thrilled with a future pick, for an arm, some power in the outfield and a catcher. Perryman could be the best piece in the deal, but, again, what can you do now.

After the off season declines, my team looked to destined for another 3rd place finish, at best. So I decided to make a serious attempt at a successful rebuild. This trade is a first step. I did give up top quality players, but got two 1st round picks and a couple of (as ChipArm puts it) "potentially good arms" in return. Neel is a gamble, with his history of very weak improvements. Gaspar looks to be the better long run prospect, but is also a gamble. But it's a start, and I am committed to a deep rebuild, so please send offers!
