News from Duffland!

June 14, 2007 at 04:06AM View BBCode

Yes, I know it's well ahead of my usual time to briefly resurface on the boards, but at the moment I have no choice...

Because I'm not supposed to tell anybody...

And none of you people know who I really am, so...I mean it's not like...

Well I probably shouldn't tell...

Should I?

Oh...I shouldn't...

But...

Well I've just gotta tell somebody...

I HAVE CREATED OFFSPRING!

Yes...I am going to be a father. I cannot even remotely deal with it right now. I'm not supposed to tell anyone yet (so the wife says), but I had to tell somebody.

Woo! I am virile! Behold the power of my awesome manliness!

vir·ile
4. of, pertaining to, or capable of procreation.

May my child be somewhat less of a dork than me.

Unless she's a girl, of course--in which case I hope she is quite effeminate.

Nice.

Duff lives. And so does the spawn thereof.

Congrats Duff. It will change your life more than you can possibly imagine. Even though everyone will tell you that and you think (after 10 months that you're ready) you're not.

It's good to hear from you Duff, congrats on the child. Train him/her well, for he/she will lead the future insurrection...

Dufflings!

The population of Wyoming is about to increase by 10% (i.e. by 1).

Are you going to name it after one of your SimD players?

Procreating is fun, indeed. Child support payments...not so much.

Anyway, congrats Duff and good to hear from you again. May your child also be a dorky liberal and hopeless Orioles fan...

Hopeless is right. But raising a kid here in Wyoming it's not going to be easy to turn him/her into an O's fan. And then, why would anyone want to? Of course if I want my child to be the fan of a perennially pathetic team, I always have the Rockies. How is it that I've lived two places in my life and the nearest MLB team to each has been an unending suckfest?

I live in Philadelphia. You get no sympathy from me.

He should Bart, because aside from Cal and his dad there are no other cool O's. Where as Phili has huge numbers of players who are cool. Boone, Carlton, The Bull, Bake, also the purist Joe, Pet and Re-Pete, Nails, Dutch (crazy as hell), Kruk, Mike, Bowa (possible he's crazy as hell), Tug, ..O's got none of that fun. They have Warl Weaver smoking in the dugout and Mr. Cy-Young standing around in his undies....sympathy for the O's fan must be given.

Let us not forget the mighty Jim Palmer.

Oh, and.. um... Rafael Palmeiro.

He didn't forget Palmer.

The guys he failed to mention are more along the lines of Eddie, Boog, Flanagan, Brooksie, the Blade, Tippy, the Dipper, Lowenstein, Sugar Bear, and Stan the Man Unusual.

And that great catcher, Lenny Sakata.

I think he was referencing Luca Brazzi's memorable line from "The Godfather."

A movie I have still never seen.

A fact for which I am rightfully ashamed, especially considering that I am of Italian descent.

O's have fairly recent World Championship. Not sure how old you are Duff, but I remember rooting for Mike Boddicker and the O's in 1983. I remember it like yesterday. I was in 8th grade. Good times. Rocks can't even say they've been to the Series. O's at least have a decent history.

Congrats on the baby too!

The Orioles now need a new manager...

Yet again. They pass up big names, get crappy second-hand free agents and combine them with bushels of talentless youngsters, and then fire the manager when they don't keep up with Boston and New York. And now that they've sucked for so long they couldn't sign big name free agents at any price. They're going to have to build a competitive team from their farm system before they can even think about luring first-rate players. And given the history, there's no reason to believe that will happen without some kind of radical changes. Much more radical than firing yet another big league skipper.

And FYI, Mania, I was born in 1977 and didn't really become interested in baseball until 1988. That's when I went to my first game at Memorial Stadium. So my personal history with the team is nineteen years with no World Championships, only five winning seasons, and two playoff appearances that ended with embarrassing defeats. I was at Game 2 of the 1997 ALCS against Cleveland. May Marquis Grissom rot in everlasting hell.

who is this? Did they really call him "stan the man unusual" in contrast to Stan the Man Musial?
