I'll start with my favorite team is the Red Sox.
I believe their direction is competing.
The biggest needs for this team is to pick up a couple of big hitters, mostly resigning Bay or going out and picking up Holliday, and then making a trade for Adrian Gonzalez, I don't believe they have to go out and get a big time pitcher, there aren't a ton of top guys sitting in the minors, Bowden, Kelly, but those guys seem still a year or two away, Tazawa as well, but a simple signing would be nice, I wouldn't mind them going for Harden, slating him as a #4 guy, let him get the extra rest because of injury, I do not want Lackey because I never believed he was a top pitcher as many have, and I wouldn't want them trading guys like Buchholz, Kelly, Westmoreland for Halladay, because word is it'd take even more then those 3.
So to sum it up.
I believe their number 1 need is 2 big hitters- Bay/Halladay and Gonzalez.
Trade Lowell in a deal to land some pitching depth.
the other need is the bullpen, which was strong, it looks like right now Papelbon isn't gonna be here for much longer due to money disagreements.
The last thing I believe they need to move out some dead weight. I believe one of those is J.D. Drew, I hated the signing when they first got him and other then his playoff heroics he has not been much value to the team, I have a feeling though they are gonna stick to his injury plagued, in-consistent play until his contract runs out.
The other is Dice-K, he has 1 more year until I'd give up on him, if he can prove to be atleast a #3 I'd be happy, he was clearly overhyped.

Well he has played a mere 386 games since joining Boston in 2007, and has been pretty useless in those 386 games, putting up a pedestrian .390 OBP and .485 SLG. Hell, last year he was only 2nd on the team in OBP, and 3rd in OPS. Of course there were the playoff heroics, but his regular season is just too crappy to overlook. Also Manny Ramirez. He sucks too.

For 15 million a year, he's expected to put up better numbers then a average to solid hitter, for 15 mill he should be better then .275ish, 15-20 homers and 60 rbi, if you look past OBP and OPS and actually saw it on a everyday basis you'd probably think the same, he's not worth the money they signed him for, if you go year by year he is very streaky at some point, i believe it was 08, look at June, the bulk of his numbers came in that 1 month, in 07 it was june and September, in 09 it was august and September, he's not consistent, doesn't hit for a very high average, doesn't hit for the power, so for 15 million, what makes him worth that? His high OBP? So a high OBP is now worth 15 million a year? A guy who can't play everyday? so a low amount of runs scored, low rbi total, average home runs and average numbers, doesn't steal bases, and a decent fielder, I don't see the worth of 15 million there, why try to start trouble? Is it so hard to follow the topic?

I am doubtful that any fan base despises JD Drew more than those in Philadelphia, that's for sure.

Which doesn't fit the theme, since FaceMatt (and the Red Sox kid) hate JD Drew because he played for their teams, whereas you hate him because he didn't. If he's as terrible as they think, you should be thrilled that he didn't sign with the Phillies.

some would say that a .485 SLG% is hitting for power. And by "some" I mean "most anyone who looks any further than "home runs". His career slugging percentage is 30th among active players. His career on base percentage is 12th.

I don't hate JD Drew, personally, thank you.
But yeah most Cardinals fans do not care for him. Of course, nobody really cares since trading him brought STL Adam Wainright.
JD Drew was in a contract year, the Cards wouldn't have resigned him anyway.
He was one of my favorites when he was in STL, and he played. I wasn't terribly sorry to see him go though.

Okay. I mean, I don't think JD Drew is worth all of these words from any of us, but he's a guy who people don't seem to ever have an objective opinion about. He is a very good player who gets injured a lot and therefore is generally not worth the contracts that he signs. But if you're a fan of a team like the Red Sox where money is generally not much of an object, and you think your team needs offensive production, then you're crazy to also want that team to deal away JD Drew.
